Resolutions

As my friends and family know, I am all about getting in my 10,000 steps every day. It all started when I got injured while training for the 2015 Disneyworld Marathon. I needed to rest, but I also knew it wasn’t good to be inactive, so this became my new workout plan. Getting in those steps helped me even more post- marathon because after spending four months of my life running most days and suddenly having to stop, it could get depressing. Walking every day gave me something to look forward to, and it is a great way to work out and keep fit.

Getting in my steps every day brings me to unique places that I wouldn’t otherwise have explored. I found a small park in Hardeeville, SC named Sergeant Jasper Park. This park is home to wetlands, walking trails, kayaking and canoeing, disc golf, and of course, alligators. I talked to one of the workers there and he told me that the State used to own the park, but the park is now deeded to the county. The county has turned the park around by making upgrades such as disk golf and banquet rooms.

Oh boy!

I first noticed the “alligator beware” signs, but didn’t see any alligators during the walk. The signs were by the canoeing and kayaking latch areas – which is crazy to think that people are in the water with alligators! There were many walking trails to choose from, and all of the trails were well maintained. Wooden bridges or walkways were placed when needed. There were a few other people out on the trails too, despite the rain. Overall, I am happy to have found this park and look forward to going back on a non-rainy day so I can enjoy more of it!

Can you believe that 2015 has ended and 2016 is now here? We started off the New Year with a win and a loss. The win was me donating 12 inches of my hair to Wigs for Kids, and the loss was Michigan State losing in the Cotton Bowl. They had a great season, especially when they beat Michigan in the last 10 seconds of the regular season, but needless to say, there was still a sad Spartan at home.

When 2015 started, Brad and I thought we might be living in a RV, but to actually be doing by the end of the year is quite amazing. This past year has been filled with lots of adventure, fun, and learning. We have done a lot to get where we are and we have some ideas of where we want to travel this year, but we will just have to wait and see how the year unfolds.

2016-new-years-resolutions

I love the start of a New Year because it’s a new chance to adopt new goals that will bring you want you want in life with regards to finances, health, relationships, love, career, travel, or self-improvement. I have found the trick with setting new goals or resolutions is to write them down and tell others about them. Writing them down will keep you focused and telling others will keep you accountable. My one friend and I picked out our biggest goal for 2016 and we are helping each other achieve that by checking in with each other. Talk about accountability! When you are not in the mood to work on your goals (especially by mid-year when more than 50% of people stop maintaining their resolutions), just think of the friend that is going to check in with you and ask how your goals are going.

I wasn’t one to always set New Year resolutions, but I started to see that they are a great way to set small goals. It doesn’t matter where you are in life, you have goals that you want to accomplish so why not start on them now?

My resolutions this year include: floss more (sorry you had to read that Mom!), every day to work on writing my book and take photographs every day, actually learn to knit, build up an Etsy shop, work on videos for this blog, and keep up with resolutions that I made last year (every day 10,000 steps every day, meditate, and read a fun book/personal growth book).

Brad’s are to get in 10,000 steps every day, play golf once a month, get back into working out with the TRX, and to donate blood five times this year.

imagesWhat are some of your New Year’s resolutions?

The weather has been cooler this week, but it is going to be warming up soon. We will be out exploring the area and according to my resolution, taking more videos of our adventures to bring you all.

Till then!

  1. My resolutions are to stay positive and donate to a charity every month. I’m also continuing a few from last year 🙂 Keep up the great work! I’m proud of both you and Brad!
